Press Release 3

Phil Frisk's Shoulder Surgery Successful

Wanna See My Scar?

March 16, 2000 -- The big day finally arrived.  Three months after the skiing accident (see press release #2) the torn rotator cuff on the left shoulder was finally repaired.  The muscle damage had to heal before the operation could be done.  (Actually, the physician had to return from vacation.)

Dr. James Weaver of Rocky Mountain Orthopaedic Associates preformed the surgery at St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction, CO.  Phil was admitted at 11:00 AM, the operation began at 12:30 PM and was completed by 2:00 PM.  Phil awoke from the general anesthesia at 3:00 PM and was released from the out-patient service at 4:00 PM.  Judy brought Phil home and prepared a delicious home-cooked meal that surpassed the "last supper" the night before.  (It's so scary to have to sign all the hospital's risk-disclosure forms that include the word "death.")  What, me worry?

The first night was spent with some discomfort but the pain pills seem to work.  Phil goes back to the doctor's office next week to have the stitches removed and a therapy program initiated.  The left arm will be in a sling for a week or two and full recovery is expected within six months.
